Ubisoft will reveal Skull and Bones’ new release date “very soon”, the publisher has said, following yesterday’s news of a further delay for the beleaguered pirate adventure. Skull and Bones, which has been in development since 2013, was revealed in 2017 but has faced repeated delays since then, its release most recently being moved from November 2022 to March 2023. Yesterday though, Ubisoft confirmed it was pushing the troubled game’s launch back yet again, this time to “early” in the fiscal year 2023-24. In a follow-up statement shared by the official Skull and Bones Twitter account, Ubisoft spoke a little…

GOG’s Connect service, which let users grab a free copy of a game they already owned on Steam to add their GOG library, is officially no more. Launched in 2016, GOG Connect was a neat proposition on paper, allowing users to link their GOG and Steam accounts and then get a duplicate, DRM-free version of a game they’d already purchased on Valve’s platform over on GOG. In practice, though, it was all a bit restrictive, with GOG only offering a very limited selection of eligible games – and even those could only be added to a user’s GOG library within…

Six percent of Nintendo is now owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the financial scheme set up by the country’s highly-controversial Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Some 35 years on from the Mega Drive first launched there’s no real shortage of action games inspired by some of the greats of the 16-bit era. Not that I’m complaining, of course – my Switch is stacked with gems like Katana Zero, Huntdown and Blazing Chrome still getting regular play. It’s always a thrill switching between something like Contra: Hard Corps on the Switch Online’s Mega Drive service (an offering that’s honestly worth the price of a subscription alone) and a game like Blazing Chrome, seeing how faithful Brazilian developer JoyMasher is to its inspiration while also seeing all…
MechWarrior 5 developer Piranha Games is working on a new title in the long-running MechWarrior series, with the studio currently aiming to release the project in 2024. Piranha Games president Russ Bullock shared the news during an interview with the NoGutsNoGalaxy podcast (thanks PC Gamer), teasing, “I’ll just say that it’s not MechWarrior Online 2, it’s not the successor to MechWarrior Online, it’s not an online PvP [game] – think of it more in line with MechWarrior 5, but a standalone game, a standalone product.” According to Bullock, the currently mysterious title – which is being developed for PC and…

Ubisoft has confirmed the cancellation of three unannounced games following disappointing financial results for its most recent quarter, with the publisher’s troubled pirate adventure Skull and Bones also receiving a further delay. Announcing the news, Ubisoft said it was facing “major challenges as the industry continues to shift towards mega-brands and long-lasting titles”, compounded by the underperformance of recent launches including Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and Just Dance 2023. It said the resulting financial pressures have triggered a full review of its revenue prospects, leading to an “increased cautiousness over the coming years”. As a result, it has…
