Capcom has announced Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, a remaster of the original Xbox 360 game coming to modern platforms.
No release date was shared for the game, nor specific platforms. As the once Xbox exclusive franchise has since appeared on other platforms, however, a release on PlayStation and PC as well as Xbox is perhaps likely.
In a trailer, below, Capcom showed the opening scenes of the game, with protagonist Frank West on the helicopter to Willamette Mall. While the visuals have received an upgrade, another change seemingly comes as it appears voice actor T.J. Rotolo is not reprising his role as the notable zombie-slaying photojournalist.
Capcom previously remastered Dead Rising when it released the HD version for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2016 to commemorate the series’ 10th anniversary.
The game was originally released in 2006 as an exclusive for the Xbox 360, following freelance photojournalist Frank West as he heads to a small Colorado town infested with zombies and has three days to get the big scoop on what caused the outbreak.
While it was released early in the Xbox 360’s lifespan it became a defining moment for the console due to it showcasing its technical power, with hundreds of zombies appearing on screen without framerate issues. The series is also known for its sandbox-style gameplay, where you could use almost anything as a weapon to fend off the undead.
The release of Dead Rising would spawn into a successful franchise, which consists of three sequels, the most recent being 2016’s Dead Rising 4, two remakes, a litany of DLC expansions, and a few live-action films.
“Though Dead Rising may seem like a simple, mindless game when you first pick it up, it eventually reveals itself as a deeper experience,” IGN said in our review of Dead Rising. “Tons of extras are packed into Willamette’s shops. There are magazine power-ups and special drink mixes to be brewed, lots of clothing combinations, countless pictures to be taken, and plenty of NPCs to be saved.”
