We’re beyond thrilled for players to get their first glimpse of a brand-new adventure filled with spectacular stage magic-inspired powers, flamboyant characters, and a story riddled with twists and turns.
Are You Watching Closely?
In Magicians, you’ll control Jacob Menteuro, a stage magician from 1890s England. Once a member of an elite society called the Magic Ring, Jacob was betrayed and abandoned by his colleagues.
Now, he finds an unlikely ally – The Devil – who throws Jacob headfirst into the endless caverns of Theatreland, a hellish underground version of London where stage magic has become disastrously real.
It’s those stage magic powers that form the basis for every ability the player can use – which we fittingly refer to as Tricks. Each Trick lets Jacob solve multiple problems, in multiple ways.
Throughout the immersive single-player campaign, Jacob might use a Trick like Levitation to dispatch an enemy – but that same Trick is the key to manipulating floating platforms, creating cover, flinging deadly objects, forging new paths and solving dastardly puzzles.
Stage Magic, Made Real
Theatreland is a decaying jumble of London streets, corrupted theatres and seemingly endless caverns. Each Master Magician has their Realm, a place for them to practice their own special branch of stage magic. And that magic has itself gotten out of control, tearing at the very fabric of this reality.
Jacob will need to explore every nook and cranny if he’s to survive all of Theatreland’s dangers. He’ll gather supplies to keep him alive, make deals with the few denizens still sane enough to speak, and find the resources he needs to enhance his Tricks.
And Jacob will need every Trick he can muster to defeat the other Masters of the Magic Ring. Once Jacob’s closest friends, they sacrificed him in a deal with The Devil, just so they could keep the power for themselves.
When The Devil releases Jacob, he’ll find that every one of the Masters has their own axe to grind. Worse yet, Jacob’s mentor – Oliver Burke, the Master of Mentalism – hounds him at every turn.
Weaving a tale of shifting rivalries and hidden motives, Magicians: The Devil’s Deal is a joyfully cynical exploration of betrayal and deception. But as Jacob’s appetite for revenge and his ruthlessness grow, will it be enough to earn him his freedom?
