We’re thrilled and honoured that players have discovered this first glimpse of our next story during the Xbox Showcase! Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy is a new game that extends A Plague Tale lore, but there’s no need to play the previous instalments to enjoy this one. It’s anything but a sequel to Requiem: the story of Amicia and Hugo has come to an end, and we really wanted to explore a different type of experience with a familiar character from the universe. Sophia was a perfect fit: her background and psychology are an ideal playground to expand A Plague Tale’s universe with fresh gameplay. 

Sword to Slay 

From a story standpoint, Resonance allows us to tell how Sophia has become the strong, fierce, slightly cynical character that players already know and love – and it also sheds light on the reasons why she took Amicia and Hugo under her wing so genuinely. The story takes place fifteen years before Requiem events and Sophia is a member of a plunderer’s gang. While trying to understand her past, gaining control over her destiny, she finds herself at the heart of the mythical Minotaur’s island, hunted by numerous enemies. 

In terms of gameplay, Sophia is a true fighter, lethal with her sword and dagger. However, every wound she receives can also be fatal. We always try to go the extra mile with every game we make, and this one was no exception. Where Amicia was a young girl forced to take up arms, Sophia is a warrior by nature. We couldn’t tell her story properly without adding this combat feature. We’ve developed a combat system that is both demanding and rewarding, and we hope players will enjoy wielding Sophia’s weapons. 

Sophia is experienced and fierce; she parries enemies’ attacks with ease and counters them with deadly finishers. Clever and agile, she always thinks of efficient ways to outsmart her opponents and has mastered a range of tricky moves for players to utilize. By analyzing the situation correctly, players can execute a well-placed kick to open a gap in a shielded enemy’s defence, perform a perfectly timed dodge to destabilize tougher enemies, or even improvise by taking advantage of the environment. The possibilities are varied and can be enriched by the items Sophia will discover on the island. We are proud of what we’ve achieved with this approach, and we hope you’ll have as much fun playing it as we did creating it. 

Light to Survive 

Combat is a brand-new component of this game, but it’s not the only challenge that awaits players: Resonance is an action-adventure game with breathtaking Mediterranean vistas, fascinating puzzles and trials from a lost Minoan civilization. Sophia’s fate is closely connected to this mysterious golden-armored hero we can see entering an arena in the trailer, who fought on this island 4500 years before her.  

As she dives into the ruins of this civilization, helped by the notes safeguarded by other plunderers from her gang, Sophia unveils an ancient evil linked to the macula – known to A Plague Tale players as the evil source of Hugo’s curse. As light gets scarcer and yet necessary to survive, players will have to be extra perceptive to solve the riddles and escape the presence hunting them through the depths of the island.  

It’s this anguished atmosphere that we reveal in our trailer: for sure, players will have to fight, be clever and think on their feet if they hope to survive on the island. Like them, Sophia will soon have no choice but to push forward, dive into the macula’s myth, and figure out why it resonates so intimately with her. 

Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy will be released for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC and Xbox Cloud in 2026, and will be available day one with Game Pass – you can wishlist the game today on the Xbox Store.
