    Control Resonant: PS5 features detailed

Control Resonant is almost here, so it’s the perfect time to talk about how we are taking advantage of the unique opportunities provided by the PlayStation 5 hardware and the DualSense controller.

The sequel to Control takes place in our twisted own version of Manhattan, which, I dare say, provides an incredible backdrop to the action and overall narrative players will experience in the game.

The main story takes anywhere from 25 to 35 hours to complete, with plenty more for completionists.  On PlayStation 5, you can track your main story quest progress through Activities. Game Help will also be available post-launch.

At Remedy Entertainment, we’ve built an incredible amount of new technology for our proprietary Northlight engine to achieve the crazy ambitions we had for this game, all the while keeping a close eye on performance. It was our goal to make sure that the game looks and performs its best on PlayStation 5, no matter if you’re prioritizing graphics or performance. More details on that later in the blog, though.

Control Resonant’s twisted Manhattan is split into visually distinct Zones, each with its own look. Fast traveling across them is near-instantaneous, as is going back and forth to the Gap, a liminal space within Dylan’s mind that he can access at will. In the Gap, you can unlock upgrades for Dylan and his shapeshifting weapon, the Aberrant, test your builds, craft Artifacts, and more.

Control Resonant is a gameplay-driven experience, built with 60fps performance in mind from the beginning, as feel and responsiveness take top priority. To enhance this, Remedy’s game designers have taken full advantage of the DualSense adaptive triggers to give Dylan’s many combat abilities a tactile feel and create a stronger connection between your actions and his.

Dylan’s various paranatural combat abilities, such as Barrage (which launches projectiles against enemies), or summoning a Volatile Anomaly (which is a turret-like ally that can be thrown and detonated), provide different levels of resistance when you pull the triggers to activate these abilities.

Our audio team has also ensured 3D Audio support, adding another layer of sonic immersion with a compatible headset.

Before we get into numbers, it’s worth pointing out that we sometimes tend to get a little too hung up on details like resolution. At Remedy, we believe that art direction and the overall visual experience ultimately matter more.

That said, we take full advantage of the power of the PlayStation 5, so let’s take a look at the performance options you can choose from in Control Resonant.

On PlayStation 5, the game offers Performance and Quality modes. Performance mode targets 60fps at 1440p, while Quality mode targets 30fps at 2160p.

On the PlayStation 5 Pro, we use PSSR and offer three modes for you to choose from: Performance, Quality, and Balanced.

Performance mode targets 60fps at 2160p. Quality mode targets 30fps at 2160p and adds ray tracing.

For a nice balance between the two, if you have a 120Hz-compatible display, you can choose Balanced mode, which targets 40fps at 2160p and also features ray tracing.

Whether you are playing on PlayStation 5 or the Pro, we’re looking forward to seeing you experience Control Resonant when it releases on September 24.

See you on the streets of altered Manhattan!
